In modern world everybody wants
to be some kind of a hero. There are many influences from media and heroes from
movies and books become our role models. That, of course, has positive effect
on our behavior but it takes much more to be a good person.
Who is a good man? How do we
define him? One action of kindness doesn't make you a good person. But it could
make you a hero. Heroes can often live on their old glory. They are considered
good for one good action they did but there are more sides to it than just
that. A good person show he's worthy his title by his attitude. He respects
other people's opinions even if he doesn't agree. You are not a good man just
by doing good things. Many of us do this kind of actions for our own selfish
reasons. For an example, you helped someone with math because he promised you
money. Yes, you helped someone but you did it because you had profit in doing
it. Profit doesn't have to be material. Many famous and rich people donate money to charity but they do it for fame
and reputation. If you give somebody a present for no special occasion you do
it for appreciation and that good feeling you get when you see somebody's
happiness. But you can tolerate these selfish reasons. If you live your life
helping people for these reasons we can consider you a good person. Living like
that could be exhausting. It takes a lifetime to prove you are worthy the
title. But if you do good things just to prove you're a good person, it's also
selfish and it is questionable if that makes you a good person.
To sum up, it's very positive to
do good things for any reason, no matter how selfish it can be. But to be a
good man takes much more. Actually it depends on how much of selfishness you
tolerate.
