My village

Gornji Kuti

Library in Gornji Kuti

I live in Gornji Kuti. It is a small village that belongs to the township Brod Moravice of which is 1 kilometer far. It has about 60 villagers. It used to have a lot of animals as sheep, goats, cows etc. but now chickens, cats and dogs are only animals you can find right now. It has a 70 years old library with over 7000 books what is a lot for such a small place. Except the library, it has one of the oldest houses on this area.

If you go a little bit south you will come to Brod Morvice. There is primary school in which now go about 50 kids from 4 villages including Brod Moravice. There used to be 4 regional schools in 4 villages but now even this one is in danger of closing.  On the center of Brod Moravice is an old linden which became a symbol of the village. Village has a church dedicated to St. Nicholas. The township in total has 12 churches and chapels.

One of the sacral monuments is a big stone signal pole Piljdak. It was used in the time of the Ottomans as a signal pole in which fire would burn in order to signal of Turks. It was also used as a precursor of mailboxes. In village called Moravička sela is located the oldes house in this area. House "Delač" is built in 17th century.

Residents of Brod Motavice like to keep their cultural heritage so they organize a lot of rural partys and folklores. Everybody has orchard and the most represented fruit are aples and plums so they got its festivals. On "Plums day" there is a festival in hunting lodge "Lazica". People gather around and bake plum cakes, share recipes, dance and have fun. Women make plum jam and men make a drink with a high percentage of alcohol called rakija. Then it is judged by a committee. The best jams and rakija take the prices.
In the school teachers organize a ethno group which keep cultural heritage by dancing old, almost forgotten, dances and recite on the local speech.

As I spend less and less time in it because I every day travel to Ogulin in school, I almost forgot how beautiful my village is, but when I think of it I realize that it is gorgeous, peaceful, quiet place perfect for relaxation.

Mobile phones

Can you imagine the world without mobile phones? They didn't mean to us so much in the past, but now everyone got one and we use it for almost everything.
Mobile phones have so much to offer. For example, except calling and text messages, you can play games, play music, it has calculator, calendar and now you can even make documents similar to the ones you do on your computer. But the fact is that mobile phones are still the most used for checking the time. Secondly, it's small and you can always have it in your pocket or purse. If you ever get in trouble, you can call home somebody to pick you up. And finally, to some people it's very important to work. E-mails are already old fashion so people who work in big companies and corporations have to have a phone for work on which they will get all the messages and calls necessary for job.
On the other hand, mobile phones run our lives. Similar to computer, more and more people become addicted to it. To some people a day without a mobile phone is like the end of the world. Human race may become slaves of modern technology. Also, instead of hanging around in the park with their friends teenagers look at the little screens of their mobile phones for hours. The normal conversations will become extinct. It's all messages, facebook and tweeter now. And it infects grammar and spelling. No one says "I'll be right back" anymore, we just write brb and everybody knows what we meant. But if we start to use phrases like that in face to face conversations nobody will understand us. The biggest problem with mobile phones is that they infect our health. Radiation is so big it can cause sterility in both sexes. So be careful. Your phone doesn't always has to be in your pocket.
To summarize, mobile phones are as dangerous as useful. We need it for normal life in present but we need to learn where is that line so we don't become addicted or it starts infect our health.
