Library in Gornji Kuti |
I live in Gornji Kuti. It is a small village
that belongs to the township Brod
Moravice of which is 1 kilometer far. It has about 60 villagers. It used to
have a lot of animals as sheep, goats, cows etc. but now chickens, cats and
dogs are only animals you can find right now. It has a 70 years old library
with over 7000 books what is a lot for such a small place. Except the library,
it has one of the oldest houses on this area.
If
you go a little bit south you will come to Brod Morvice. There is primary school
in which now go about 50 kids from 4 villages including Brod Moravice. There
used to be 4 regional schools in 4 villages but now even this one is in danger
of closing. On the center of Brod
Moravice is an old linden which became a symbol of the village. Village has a
church dedicated to St. Nicholas. The township in total has 12 churches and
chapels.

One of
the sacral monuments is a big stone signal pole Piljdak. It was used in the
time of the Ottomans as a signal pole in which fire would burn in order to
signal of Turks. It was also used as a precursor of mailboxes. In village
called Moravička sela is located the oldes house in this area. House
"Delač" is built in 17th century.

Residents of Brod Motavice like to keep
their cultural
heritage so they organize a lot of rural partys and folklores. Everybody has
orchard and the most represented fruit are aples and plums so they got its
festivals. On "Plums day" there is a festival in hunting lodge
"Lazica". People gather around and bake plum cakes, share recipes,
dance and have fun. Women make plum jam and men make a drink with a high
percentage of alcohol called rakija. Then it is judged by a committee. The best
jams and rakija take the prices.
In the school teachers organize a ethno group which keep cultural heritage by
dancing old, almost forgotten, dances and recite on the local speech.

As I spend less
and less time in it because I every day travel to Ogulin in school, I almost
forgot how beautiful my village is, but when I think of it I realize that it is
gorgeous, peaceful, quiet place perfect for relaxation.
